December 12. Kyiv. The Ukrainian Internet Leaders award ceremony, instituted by InternetUA magazine, was held at the Ukrainian News Agency. The list of companies and individuals that contributed to the development of Internet in Ukraine in 2006 was published in the December issue of InternetUA magazine. The editorial board nominated the 15 most dynamic, influential, and famous companies in the Internet area for Ukrainian Internet Leaders awards. The editorial board of InternetUA plans to hold the ceremony annually.

VOLIA won the award as the best High-Speed Provider of the Year. The organizers of the Ukrainian Internet Leaders award ceremony pointed out that VOLIA set a Ukrainian Internet market record by providing services to new subscribers at the speed of 38 Mb/s in September.

The award organizers also noted that the expansion of broadband access is an important aspect of Internet development. Advertisers are expected to switch to the network quickly on the back of the growing demand for new generation web sites.

Another Ukrainian Internet Leaders award went to the company’s new project, Volia Data Center, nominated as the best Hosting Provider of the Year.

The dramatic growth of all Internet market segments in 2006 necessitates the development of new requirements for the quality and reliability of telecommunication services. In an effort to meet the growing demand for Internet services, Volia set up a state-of-the-art data center for corporate clients and provided broadband connection to end users at a record high speed of up to 38 Mb/s.

“Since the award is being given for the first time ever, we took into account not only the accomplishments in 2006, but also prior achievements of the projects and their contribution and importance for the development of the Ukrainian Internet”, said Andrey Gaydug, the chief editor of InternetUA magazine.
