This is it! From now on, Volia Premium TV will have the same sound as in movie theatres!
Users of Volia Premium TV, who have been looking forward to full-fledged multi-channel sound in the Home Cinema 5.1 format, have a unique opportunity to get it in the additional service Home Cinema (near video on demand)!
Until now, only stereo sound was available, whether in analog or digital format. Analog stereo output was connected to a TV set, and digital one to a digital amplifier or receiver. Now that the additional service Home Cinema (near video on demand) has been launched, digital sound has become multi-channel. This meets the needs of the time perfectly, since it is difficult to imagine a multimillion Hollywood blockbuster without three-dimensional sound.
Users of Volia Premium TV could get crystal-clear sound, without analogue high-frequency background interfering noises, using digital audio outputs of TV tuners even before Home Cinema was launched. All TV tuners that have been offered for Volia Premium TV for the last two years and a half are provided with S/PDIF audio outputs with two different types of connectors.

Most modern systems (including those made on the basis of cost-efficient active acoustic systems, whereby amplifiers and subwoofer are built into the same package) have
In addition, a brief instruction will be conducted for those who are using special audio equipment or do not trust electronics and prefer to make the necessary switches manually.
After you have connected a digital cable, which connects an amplifier (or receiver) and the TV tuner of Volia Premium TV, to you sound-amplifying equipment, select the corresponding connection. For instance, if you used Video 1 connector, this connection must be active on your equipment.
When TV channels of Volia Premium TV are transmitted, TV tuners feed sound to both digital and analog audio outputs simultaneously. Taking into account that the signal has stereo format, no additional switches are necessary when viewing TV channels. When using the additional service Home Cinema (near video on demand), the corresponding sound track must be selected. The main track will correspond to the language that was selected as the main one. If sound is absent (or if you wish to switch to the multi-channel mode and to feed signal to digital sound-amplifying equipment), select the button for changing sound tracks on the remote control panel and switch to the

| Home Cinema systems often have both types of S/PDIF connectors |
The S/PDIF format (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) was developed on the basis of the professional standard applied in the sound industry, which is normally used for digital sound recording in professional sound-recording studios. The first household audio appliances in which S/PDIF was used were CD and DVD players; later it started to be used in other audio devices as a common connection and sound transmission method.
One more application of S/PDIF interface is the transmission of digital flow of surround sound. This mode is used to connect the output of a DVD player or TV tuner (set-top-box) to the input of AV receiver of home cinema, which supports Dolby Digital or Digital Theatre Systems (DTS) formats of surround sound.
S/PDIF can be used to feed digital signals of numerous formats and to support all these systems; the format has no data communication restrictions.
S/PDIF specification allows for several types of cable and connectors to be used. Key words for the electrical type are «coaxial» and «RCA jack».
The other type is called «optical», with the word «TOSLINK» being frequently used.
There are adapters for switching from coaxial RCA Jack S/PDIF to optical TOSLINK S/PDIF and visa versa; they require an external power supply source. An advantage of the optical type of S/PDIF is an excellent immunity to electrical interferences.
Currently, the overwhelming majority of producers of Home Cinema use both types of connectors, due to which an AV receiver is a universal transmission medium for multi-channel sound, being independent of a certain device.

Types of Connectors and Cables
Coaxial or RCA jack. Coaxial cable with the resistance of 75 Ohm, connected to RCA connectors. Usual audio cable (RCA jack) can be used to transmit S/PDIF signal to short distances (up to 0.5 m.). For longer distances, it is recommended to use special coaxial cable with installed terminating resistors.

| TOSLINK fiber-optic cable, usually the standard square connecters are used. |
TOSLINK fiber-optic cable, which was initially designed by the Toshiba corporation to transmit audio flows in PCM format among branded CD players and AV receivers; however, soon it was adjusted to most CD players, irrespective of their producers, and now it has become the most universal one S/PDIF standard.
TOSLINK has several different types of connectors. However, in the majority of cases, standard connectors of the JIS F05 type (JIS C5974 1993 F05) having a square shape are used in sound equipment (including digital TV services of Volia Premium TV in TV tuners). A circular 3.5 mm Miniplug-type connector is also rather popular. There are adapters between TOSLINK and Miniplug connectors.
